Is your interest VR 1:48? If yes then you maybe interested to know which projects VR Casts are next to be released.. These include the DW (ex RY version) for $165 ea and a RY conversion kit $35 ea to convert a Veteran GY kit to an RY. Time frame within one month. Followed by a H van and IB open wagon time frame Stawell Expo. TT/HH still a work in progress.

Received our first test print of the IB body and underframe today looks good to us. Bit of a clean up, undercoat and addition of rivet decals. The master should be ready to make a mold of. Whitemetal and brass parts we already have, just awaiting wheels, sprung buffer bits and decals and these will be right to go once instructions are finalised. We still have a number of OT's available in BP numbers 78,79.80 for any one interested please email us at vrcasts@gmail.com

If you are on facebook check out our page
https://www.facebook.com/pages/VR-Casts/139645822730361 VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4579911868796326011.post-10370816611851960372014-02-21T09:56:00.000+11:002014-02-21T09:56:01.783+11:00O scale project packaging artwork

We are about 2 months away on the release of this wagon with just Buffers and Three link bits to finalise. We are currently writing up an finalised order form for those who have expressed their interest in this wagon. This form will help us tailor the kits to your preferred era of modelling and operating components. Giving you the choice of COR or BP version Number, disc or spoke wheels, wooden or mesh shunter steps, kadees or three link, buffered or not etc. The kit will be $160 to $180 depending on what components you pick. Thanks to Matthew, Richard (Veteran), Bill and Sean (Bills Billboards) and Peter (O-Aust kits) for their continued help with this project since Easter.

Those of you who were in attendance at the expo that dropped past for a chat/look it was nice to put faces to some names and emails. If the answers is Yes well we have some news that may interest you! We are now taking EOI for VR O Scale OIL Tanks numbers 77 (low single dome) and 78, 79, 80 (high single dome) in COR or BP. This model will be in kit form with the tank, dome, sign board (BP version), walkways and feet will all be cast in resin (like our HO one). The underframe and handbrake will be a Veteran Models kits which we will include. Brass ladders will be sourced from Model Etch. The art work for the decals are currently been drawn up thanks to the guys at Bills Billboards. The dome will be cast hollow to keep the cost down for everyone and to give the modeller the option to add weight if they want/need. Price at this stage is still unknown as we are awaiting bits and pieces. A EOI form will be available shortly with samples (hopefully 2 one each of COR and BP) on show at the Stawell Model Railways Expo in a months time.
This sand wagon group consisted of hand-me-down IC Tippler (I/IA Tommy Bents) rollingstock placed into low mileage traffic. These 11 wagons were built at Bendigo Workshops from 1972 to 1975 and were used to traffic locomotive traction sand. The IC’s already had their doors removed and a sheet of steel welded in. With the conversion to HD Sand wagon they also had hoppers installed and discharge shoots added to the wagons.By the early 80’s these short wheelbase sand wagon were either taken of register, scrapped or modified and renumber for another use. There were other similar wagons that were built to the same design but used the surplus longer wheelbase RY wagons.

This wagon will be released SUNDAY at Sanddown Exhibtion. It will retail for $20 and will include decals.VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4579911868796326011.post-1635335394082135802013-01-19T15:26:00.000+11:002013-01-19T15:26:21.940+11:00VR Casts Update Jan 2013

Last year seen the release the following items: - Victorian Railways Q 26 and 30 Pintsch Gas Tank Wagon
- Victorian Railways IT 1 - 251, 253 - 273 Scantling Timber Wagon
- Victorian Railways HD 150 to 218 Departmental Van
- A mixed goods wagon load for I/ IA and GY wagons
- A six pack of HO scale 44 gallon drums
- A two pack of O scale 44 gallon drums

During the second half of the year we looked into purchasing an 3D Rapid
Prototype Printer. After visiting with stockists, viewing samples, many emails
back and forth, comparing costs and further number crunching it was decided that
it was not feasible for our small scale business at this time.

Since then David and Rachel have been busy drawing up some underframes in a 3D Software program to get some test printing done for some of our upcoming VR 4whl wagon projects.

Some will have noticed that the VR DFdf Horse/Guards Van, VR IX Open Wagon, VR F11 Short 4whl Horse Box and VR C/J 4whl Hearse Van are no longer
available on our online store. These products will be discontinued but an odd
may appear for sale at exhibitions.

The larger 6whl Horse box is still currently un-available as a new silicone mould needs to be made. Those who order this product may incur at least a 2week wait up on top of the usual few days to cast the order.

They were introduced due to a rise in housing development and the increased amount of timber traffic out of the Orbost region of East Gippsland Victoria . After a trail with one wagon the class IT was adopted.

The IT were loaded with scantling timber packed by sawmills in packs. Each pack consisted of various sawn timber which was stacked with all the ends together at one end. This results in load distribution problems. To deal with this problem the 273 IT's that had three distinct features:

Bulkhead at one end only (to support the stacked timber)

Heavy springs, 10"x 5" journals and 3'2" diameter wheelset at the bulkhead end

Standard springs and journals, wheelset diameters of 3'0" at the opposite (light) end

Even though they had a the appearance of uneven load, derailments were rare, with you more likely to have seen them in the shunting yard 'rearing up like horses' when hit roughly from the bulkhead (heavy) end during shunting.
For this reason we have decided to do another HD type. This type has close to 70 wagons built to it from hand-me-down I/IA wagons during the late 50's to early 60's. They covered the surplus stock with raised metal side and a roof and two full height doors each side. A large number of these were used specifically used for construction and were stenciled 'NES' (North East Standardisation). This new item will be a three part Kit. Main body and roof as one peice and the doors for the sides make up the other two peices with a cost of $20 each. Limited numbers will be available of the weekend but will be happy to orders and post them out or you can purchase them from our online store. No decals will be supplied with this wagon but if you contact Bill's Billboards who specialise in custom decals, I'm sure Sean and Bill will be able to help you out .
VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4579911868796326011.post-90765336346438590042012-01-12T15:17:00.000+11:002012-01-12T15:17:06.896+11:00We're back and accepting ordersOur first appearence in the new year will be at the Warrnambool Model Railway Exhibition on the 14 and 15 of January 2012 (This weekend) we're we will be releasing a new Departmental Van. The Skill Levels are not entirely based just on the skills needed but the time it takes, equipment and tools needed and the amount of parts there are. A more comprehensive description of each Skill Level will put on the website in the next few months.

Cheers Dave and Rach

Stay tuned of the photo's of the Q's Cabin..

VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4579911868796326011.post-73513349420800868462011-05-24T16:39:00.004+10:002011-06-05T16:11:01.580+10:0020 May 2011 - 'WA Weedex Tank'
Work has commenced on the master for the 'WA/WX Weedex Tank'

Background Information:
Between 1955 and 1959, twenty five tank wagons were place in service. Nine of these wagons were bogie tanks with E underframes. The remainders had a cylindrical tank mounted on a fixed wheel underframe. The WX tanks were numbered 1 to 15. They were used in a weed spray train with a weed spray van HZ/WZ. In 1963, the WX class was re-lettered to WA. This was because the code conflicted with the introduction of letter 'X' indicating bogie exchange and so the class was re-lettered to WA.

Numbers 10 - 19 were scrapped prior to the WA re-classification leaving numbers 1 to 9 and 20 to 25. The fleet of tanks in active service was reduced to WA 1 to 9 and the remaining were scrapped or stored. Four (1, 3, 7 and 9) of the WA's in the group 1 to 9 were fitted with replacement underframes in the the late 1970's. This work was done at the Bendigo Workshops with an ELX design underframe being used.

In 1988 the WA tank wagons, number 1 to5, 7 and 9 were re-lettered to VZVA.

For more information and picture's head over to Peter J Vincent's website.
VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4579911868796326011.post-49737793693816151402011-05-14T10:08:00.004+10:002011-05-15T20:20:24.552+10:00Have you seen our new website?
Go to http://www.vrcasts.com/ and check it out?

The website has a whole new look and layout (keeping in mind it is still a work in progress). There is an updated online store with all the new specials currently available. In the description of each product in the store it will tell you if you need any other additional items to complete the model. With the new changes came some sacrifices this includes the loss of the members side and page. We have transferred all members to our VIP emailing list. An email will be sent out to all those people.

Work has been progressing on the Pintsch Gas Q26 and 30 nicely left is a picture of the master for the tank. This product at this stage will be a four piece kit. The parts include tank, body of the cabin, roof on the cabin and the underframe. We are currently sourcing decals as well.

The follow is some back ground information on the wagons:

In 1878 two Q bogie flat wagons number 26 and 30 were built by Tozer in Melbourne. By 1903 Q 30 was modified at the Newport Workshops where it gained a Pintsch Gas tank with an engine as too did Q 26 in April 1910. These two wagons had the remains of very old passenger carriages installed over the engines and the front of the tanks to protect them from the weather. In the early 1970's both wagon came off register and are currently been preserved in non-operational condition by the ARHS at Newport. In 1982 they had their number swapped so Q 26 became Q30 (2nd) and Q 30 became Q 26 (2nd). The Pintsch Gas was used for the lighting of passenger cars and country stations.
VR Castshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16397621152673538023noreply@blogger.com0
